If you are a stranger to the Chicago community, then maybe you have not heard of George Soros, but that does not mean he isn’t worth talking about! George Soros, in short, is a well accomplished business-man-became-philanthropist who has been hard at work for a great deal of time (since the mid-fifties!) donating to charitable organizations and otherwise benefiting the community that he holds so close and dear and more information click here.
George Soros’ story is a rare one, fraught with peril and an underdog wins sort of undertone.
The real meat begins around 1944, when the Nazi’s had nearly overtaken all of Europe and George Soros had been living with his Jewish family in Hungary. As the anti-semitic inclinations grew and hate politics over took the region, the Soros family was forced to forge documents and evade the S.S just in order to survive. But just surviving, just fulfilling his personal needs, did not appeal to the then-teenage George Soros and Follow his Twitter. He, along with his family, assisted countless others in assuring their safe travel and subsequent survival in such perilous times. If it were not for the Soros,’ who can tell how many other countless stories would never have been written?
From then on, George Soros moved to London, where he took on small task jobs, waiting tables and working on trains, to fund his education at the London School of Economics. In 1956, he immigrated to the United States where he went on to pursue business and finance whole heartedly and George Soros’s lacrosse camp.
In 1970, he launched his own hedge fund called Soros Fund Management, which is how he accumulated his immense wealth. Today, Soros is worth about $25 billion. He then went on to use this money to fund his Open Society Foundation, a passion project that networks hundreds of key players in the pursuit of freedom and justice.
He then began his work in Philanthropy, donating scholarships to black South African students when apartheid divided the region, as well as advocating for equality worldwide, such as the war on drugs; he quickly voiced his disapproval and fought to counter it and learn more about George Soros.
So as time has passed, his involvement in the workings of the world has gained Soros a great deal of attention; some good, and some bad. Because of his wide left views and politics, and the fact that he has the money to make things happen, benefiting the left, the extreme right have viewed him as a sort of boogey man, controlling the world from behind a shadowy desk. But the Open Society Foundation is actually very transparent in it’s dealings and expresses extreme thirst to aid social justice wherever it is losing the fight and what George Soros knows.
So whether or not you agree with George Soros’ views, it’s safe to say he is working for the betterment of the world he loves, and the people he loves more, and with his wealth, maybe he can actually fix a few things and read full article.
